From storytelling and Pilates, to underwear and art, you don’t have to go far for fun this weekend. Check out some of our favorite events from around the neighborhood:

How to Build a Fire: Advancing the Oral Tradition
When: Thursday, March 27, 7:30pm
Where: Open Source Gallery, 306 17th Street, between 5th and 6th Streets
What: Join host Terence Degnan for a new monthly storytelling series at Open Source, where he “will explore the course of the narrative, not only as it is heard, but also as it experiences its reiterations.” This month’s storytellers include Reggie Cunningham, Scott Adkins and Erin Courtney, Shawn Lyons, and Mateo Prendergast.

Free Pilates
When: Friday, March 28, 12pm to 1pm
Where: Prospect Park Audubon Center
What: Shape up and have fun in Prospect Park. This introductory class to the Pilates method utilizes conditioning exercises that help to create length in the body, and improve flexibility and strength. The class is open to adults and seniors. No registration is required, but they do ask that you bring your own mat.
How much: Free

U Is For Underwear Book Launch
When: Saturday, March 29, 4pm to 5pm
Where: Powerhouse On 8th, 1111 8th Avenue, between 11th and 12th Streets
What: Teach your tykes the alphabet in style with a new board book from Greenpoint artist and printmaker Jesse Levison.

Closing Reception For Finding The Root
When: Sunday, March 30, 4pm to 7pm
Where: 440 Gallery, 440 6th Avenue, between 9th and 10th Streets
What: It’s your final chance to check out the Ellen Chuse exhibition, Finding The Root, at 440 Gallery this weekend. If you’d like to chat with Ellen, the artist will be on hand for the closing reception Sunday evening, so be sure to stop by and say hello.
