South Slope Weekend Events Spotlight: February 27-March 2
From musical weirdness and free whisky cocktails to African Masai art and Oscar, South Slope is the place to be this weekend. Check out some of our favorite events from around the neighborhood:
Weird Wednesdays (On Thursdays)
When: Thursday, February 27, 8pm to 10pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street near 6th Avenue
What: Ready to explore some musical weirdness with Terry Dame? This month, “guest Ranjit Bhatnagar will present highlights from his annual February Instrument a Day project and some duets with toy piano genius Margaret Leng Tan on newly minted instruments they’ve constructed.
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation
Make African Masai Necklaces
When: Friday, February 28, 4pm to 5pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Arts and crafts Friday is open to all ages, so come out from the cold, get creative, and make a little jewelry with this kids.
How much: Free
Black Grouse Tasting
When: Friday, February 28, 7pm to 9pm
Where: The Monro Pub, 481 5th Avenue, between 11th and 12th Streets
What: Free cocktails! Reps from The Black Grouse will be on hand with complementary whisky cocktails (yum).
How much: No cover
Introduction To Bird Watching
When: Saturday, March 1, 12pm to 1pm
Where: Prospect Park Audubon Center
What: If the family would like to learn a bit more about the neighborhood’s fair feathered friends, join the Brooklyn Bird Club in Prospect Park this weekend and discover some of the 250 species of birds that call our park home.
How Much: Free
Oscar Night At Cafe Steinhof
When: Sunday, March 2, 7pm
Where: Cafe Steinhof, 422 7th Avenue at 14th Street
What: Mary’s Bar isn’t the only one rocking Oscar this weekend. Pick up a ballot at Cafe Steinhof, watch the Hollywood celebration with a little goulash, and when it’s all said and done, the three ballots that come closest to a perfect score will win a free dinner.
