South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: September 22-25
Don’t wait until this weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from toddlers on roller skates to stand-up comedy to a tour of Prospect Park’s ecological restoration, the Slope is definitely the place to be through Thursday. Here’s some of our favorite events from around the area:
Dive Comedy
When: Monday, September 22, 9pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Tonight’s show, hosted as always by the terrific Giulia Rozzi and Brooke Van Poppelen, features Michelle Buteau, Robert Dean, Abbi Crutchfield, Tom Cowell, Gerald Delgado, and more.
How much: Free.
Toddler Tuesdays
When: Every Tuesday, 9:30am-12pm
Where: Prospect Park, LeFrak Center at Lakeside
What: Hit the Lakeside rink with the neighborhood’s youngest Slopers every Tuesday morning. Kids ages 2-5 (and their caregivers) will have a blast with instructor-led play and music activities, healthy snacks, and open skate time with skate rentals, helmets, and pad packs included.
How much: $15 per child, free admission for accompanying adult ($6 adult skate rental available).
Trivia Night
When: Tuesday, September 24, 8pm
Where: Johnny Mack’s, 1114 8th Avenue
What: If you’ve got some trivial knowledge just taking up room in your brain, let it out here for the possibility of free shots and prizes!
How much: Free.
Prospect Park Ecological Restoration Walking Tour
When: Wednesday, September 24, 9am-12pm
Where: Lakeside, Prospect Park
What: Join the Prospect Park Alliance to learn about the Alliance’s Natural Resources Crew and their work to introduce and sustain native plant species that benefit the Park’s ecosystem. The tour will be led by Steven DiFalco, the Alliance’s forest ecologist, who will identify invasive species that can disrupt this ecosystem.
How much: Free, but tour is limited to 20 people; to register, email sdifalco@prospectpark.org.
Kings Bay Y Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, September 24, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score your ticket.
Story Play
When: Wednesday, September 24, 1:30pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Bring the family out to the library on Wednesday afternoon for stories, games, and fun with friends. Geared toward children ages birth to 3 years.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so once again, be sure to arrive early.
Free Rad Jokez
When: Wednesday, September 24, 8:30pm
Where: Supercollider, 609 4th Avenue between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Don’t forget a jacket when you head out to enjoy this night of free standup comedy out on the rooftop patio. Dustin Sherman hosts the fun night that includes Tim Dillon, Ross Parsons, Lane Pieschel, Jason Sáenz, and Julia Shiplett.

Shape Up NYC: Dance Fitness
When: Thursday, September 25, 11am
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Shake your groove thing at the Audubon Center on Thursday and get into shape. This new total-body workout class “uses easy-to-follow dance steps to increase cardiovascular fitness and tone the body.”
How much: Free.
