Though we’re gearing up for a busy weekend full of great Halloween events, that’s no reason not to have a little pre-holiday fun. From stand-up comedy to a drop-in open mic to a good reason to have a drink or two, folks in the Slope won’t have to go far for some cool events. Here are some of our top weekday picks from around the area.

For even more things to do around Brooklyn, and to add your own upcoming events (some of which we’ll feature in this roundup in the future!), check out our calendar.

Zumba
When: Monday, October 26, 5pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Kick off a new fitness regimen at the Park Slope Library every Monday, as the branch hosts an energetic Zumba class for the community.
How much: Free.

Comedy Open Mic
When: Monday, October 26, 6:30pm
Where: Freddy’s Bar & Backroom, 627 5th Avenue between 17th and 18th Streets
What: This weekly opportunity to test out your jokes is fun whether you’re on stage or just there to watch. Walk-ins welcome on first come/first served basis, though you can reserve your space in advance by contacting jennifer.salzman@gmail.com; note that comics are required to purchase one item from the bar for seven minutes of stage time. Plus, stick around for even more stand-up following the open mic.
How much: Free.

Open Mic Night
When: Tuesday, October 27, 7pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: A new monthly event at the library is a fun chance to bring your guitar, mandolin, violin — whatever instrument you can carry, not to mention your voice — to play a tune for your neighbors. Each performer or group is allowed to play up to two songs. Show starts at 7pm, with the last sign-up at 8pm; and it’s first-come, first-served.
How much: Free.

Boozin’ For Boobs
When: Wednesday, October 28, 7pm-2am
Where: Supercollider, 609 4th Avenue between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Stop by the bar to have a drink, and tip well — bartender Jeanna McGinnis will be donating 20 percent of bar sales and tips to the American Cancer Society. “I do this to honor of the women that I love who are fighting breast cancer, have beaten breast cancer and lost to breast cancer,” she writes.
How much: Free.

Andy Biskin’s 16 Hammers
When: Wednesday, October 28, 8pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street near 6th Avenue
What: If you’ve spent a cozy afternoon (or several) enjoying the seminal Alan Lomax anthology, Folksongs of North America, you’ll enjoy this new project by clarinetist Andy Biskin that reimagines its songs. Also featuring John Carlson, Ron Horton, and Kenny Warren: on trumpets and Rob Garcia on drums.
How much: Free.
