South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: October 13-16
Don’t wait until this weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from free jazz to a tour of Prospect Park’s natural side, the Slope is definitely the place to be through Thursday. Here’s some of our favorite events from around the area:
Film Screening: Bastards Of Young
When: Monday, October 13, 9:30pm
Where: Videology, 308 Bedford Avenue, Williamsburg
What: Neighbor Josiah Signor will be screening his film, some of which was shot in our area, which is about discovering a new path in your early 30s.
How much: Free.
Toddler Tuesday
When: Every Tuesday, 9:30am-12pm
Where: Prospect Park, LeFrak Center at Lakeside
What: Hit the Lakeside rink with the neighborhood’s youngest Slopers every Tuesday morning. Kids ages 2-5 (and their caregivers) will have a blast with instructor-led play and music activities, healthy snacks, and open skate time with skate rentals, helmets, and pad packs included.
How much: $15 per child, free admission for accompanying adult ($6 adult skate rental available).
Jazz Jam Sessions
When: Tuesday, October 14, 7pm-1am
Where: The Fifth Estate, 506 5th Avenue, between 12th and 13th Streets
What: Nothing helps you wind down like a little jazz, and The Fifth Estate will have live music playing all night long.
How much: Free.
Having A Whiskey Coke With You
When: Tuesday, October 14, 9pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Come out to Freddy’s on Tuesday night for “a reading and performance series featuring a community of New York’s finest poets, writers, musicians, performers and artists.” In addition to the scheduled performers, there’s also an open mic. Those interested in reading can sign up at Freddy’s the night of the event.

Kings Bay Y Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, October 15, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score your ticket.
Shape Up NYC: Dance Fitness
When: Thursday, October 16, 11am
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Shake your groove thing at the Audubon Center on Thursday and get into shape. This new total-body workout class “uses easy-to-follow dance steps to increase cardiovascular fitness and tone the body.”
How much: Free.
Explore NYC’s Natural Side
When: Thursday, October 16, 5:30-8pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Join the Prospect Park Alliance and the Natural Areas Conservancy for a tour of Prospect Park’s woodlands, the largest remaining ancestral forest in Brooklyn, and learn about its important role as an ecosystem for native plants and animals. Afterward, stick around for light refreshments at the Audubon Center.
