South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: May 4-6
Don’t wait until the weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from storytelling and kiddie rock, to play groups and book discussions, South Slope is definitely the place to be through Wednesday. Here are some of our favorite events from around the area:
The Brain Cloud
When: Monday, May 4, 7pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street near 6th Avenue
What: Make your way to Barbes on Monday night and let Brain Cloud serenade you with their Bob Wills inspired “New Orleans-meets-Texas, strings-meet-horns, jazz-meets-country sound.” It’s great stuff.
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation.
Storytelling At The Monro
When: Tuesday, May 5, 8:30-10:30
Where: The Monro Pub, 481 5th Avenue
What: Have a story to share, or just want to sit back and listen to other brave souls take the stage? The Monro Pub is the place to be on Tuesday night. Anyone is welcome to participate, and if you’re feeling a little nervous, there’s plenty of liquid courage available behind the bar.
How much: Free.
Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, May 6, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score your ticket.
Toddler Time
When: Wednesday, May 6, 11:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: After Rock With Adam wraps up, tots ages 18-36 months are invited to explore toys, watch finger plays, and listen to stories and songs at Toddler Time.
How much: Free, but tickets are required. Arrive by 11am to secure your spot.
Shape Up NYC: Glutes In Gear
When: Wednesday, May 6, 6-7pm
Where: Prospect Park, Audubon Center
What: Looking for a belly-busting, booty shaping workout? This two-part class focuses on high-endurance cardio and mat work to build your core, and flatten and tighten your abs and glutes. No registration is required, but be sure to bring your own mat.
How much: Free.
The Opposite Of Spoiled: Book Reading And Discussion With Ron Lieber
When: Wednesday, May 6, 6:30-7:45pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Join neighbor and New York Times “Your Money” columnist, Ron Lieber, for a reading and discussion of his new book, The Opposite of Spoiled, “a persuasive parenting manifesto filled with solid, tested advice on how to help our children make better financial decisions, develop better habits, and acquire the tools they’ll need to grow into grounded young adults with good values and habits.”
