South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: May 18-21

Don’t wait until the weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from comedy and blues, to movies and Tongues in Trees, South Slope is definitely the place to be through Thursday. Here are some of our favorite events from around the area:

Quarter Life Crisis Comedy Open Mic
When: Monday, May 18, 7pm
Where: Supercollider, 609 4th Avenue between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Looking for laughs, or need a spot to test out your material? Signup for Supercollider’s open mic comedy night starts at 7pm on Monday. There’s no cover, but you must be over 21 to enter.
How much: Free.

Blues On Tuesday
When: Tuesday, May 19, 10pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Local band Fife and Drom hosts an incredible night of classic blues at Freddy’s on Tuesday night.
How much: Free.

Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, May 20, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score your ticket.

Shape Up NYC: Glutes In Gear
When: Wednesday, May 20, 6-7pm
Where: Prospect Park, Audubon Center
What: Looking for a belly-busting, booty shaping workout? This two-part class focuses on high-endurance cardio and mat work to build your core, and flatten and tighten your abs and glutes. No registration is required, but be sure to bring your own mat.
How much: Free.

Tongues In Trees
When: Wednesday, May 20, 8pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street at 6th Avenue
What: Vocalist Samita Sinha, drummer Sunny Jain, and guitarist Grey McMurray “blur the line between East and West, traditional and experimental, and acoustic and electronic” from the Barbes stage on Wednesday night.
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation.

Library Movie Time
When: Thursday, May 21, 3pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Kids and their grownups are invited to the library for an afternoon screening of Disney’s Maleficent. Showtime is at 3pm, and the movie runs 97 minutes.
How much: Free.
