South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: March 30-April 2

Don’t wait until this weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from poetry and dazzling drums, to delicious food and a groovy vibraphone, South Slope is definitely the place to be through Thursday. Here are some of our favorite events from around the area:

Quarter Life Crisis Comedy Open Mic
When: Monday, March 30, 7pm
Where: Supercollider, 609 4th Avenue between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Looking for laughs, or need a spot to test out your material? Signup for Supercollider’s open mic comedy night starts at 7pm on Monday. There’s no cover, but you must be over 21 to enter.
How much: Free.

The Art Of Living Meditation Workshop
When: Tuesday, March 31, 6-8pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Stress and life in the big city often go hand in hand, but the Park Slope Library is at the ready with a meditation workshop, led by volunteer organization The Art of Living. Note that this class is for adults only. No reservation is required.
How much: Free.

DÜM, A Turkish Rhythm Celebration
When: Tuesday, March 31, 7pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street near 6th Avenue
What: It’s a percussion wonderland at Barbes on Tuesday night, as performers hit the stage with “dazzling drumming pieces using the Turkish Split Hand darbuka technique.”
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation.

Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, April 1, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score your ticket.

Shape Up NYC: Glutes In Gear
When: Wednesday, April 1, 6-7pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Looking for a belly-busting, booty shaping workout? This two-part class focuses on high-endurance cardio and mat work to build your core, and flatten and tighten your abs and glutes. No registration is required, but be sure to bring your own mat.
How much: Free.

A Taste Of Fifth
When: Wednesday, April 1, 6:30pm
Where: The Grand Prospect Hall, 263 Prospect Avenue
What: A Taste of Fifth is back, and tickets are still available! Not only does admission treat you to food from some of the neighborhood’s best restaurants, beer and wine are also included, and $20 from your ticket price goes to a local charity of your choice. How much: $55 now/$60 at the door.

Tyler Blanton Band
When: Wednesday, April 1, 10pm
Where: Cafe Steinhof, 422 7th Avenue at 14th Street
What: Get “groovy, jazzy, and funky” over at Cafe Steinhof on Wednesday with vibraphonist Tyler Blanton.
How much: $10 suggested donation

District 38 Participatory Budgeting Expo
When: Thursday, April 2, 6:30-8pm
Where: MS 88, 544 7th Avenue at 18th Street
What: Learn more about the local projects that are on the ballot, which you can vote on from Saturday, April 11 through Sunday, April 19 to help decide which will get funded.
How much: Free.

Poetry Reading: James Shea And Jennifer Mackenzie
When: Thursday, April 2, 6:30-8pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Join poets James Shea and Jennifer Mackenzie at the Park Slope Library on Thursday night, where they will read from their works, including “The Lost Novel,” and “My Not-My Soldier.”
How much: Free.
