South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: July 21-24
Don’t wait until this weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from Rally Caps, Rain Delays, and Racing Sausages to a musical journey at Freddy’s, South Slope is definitely the place to be through Thursday.
Shape Up NYC: Couch To 5k
When: Monday, July 21, 7pm
Where: Meets in Prospect Park on the porch of Lefferts Historic House
What: Don’t let the summer heat get you down! Lace up those sneakers, and make your fitness dreams a reality in Prospect Park. This weekly jog combines group running, walking, and conditioning exercises to get you in shape for long distance running.
How much: Free.
Music From NY Underground: The Six Houses
When: Tuesday, July 22, 8:30pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Experimental music descends on Freddy’s Tuesday in this monthly series that features “hard-working New York-based creative music artists.” This week, look for trumpet and alto clarinet player, composer and musical storyteller Matt Lavelle and his six houses, as they take the audience on “a musical journey into the music inside the Sacred Geometry of the Crop Circles.”
How much: $10 suggested donation.

When: Wednesday, July 23, 1:30pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Bring the family out to the library on Wednesday afternoon for stories, games, and fun with friends. Geared toward children ages birth to 3-years.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score your ticket.
Celebrate Brooklyn Benefit Concert: Neutral Milk Hotel
When: Wednesday, July 23, 7pm
Where: Prospect Park Bandshell, 9th Street and Prospect Park West
What: It looks like Tuesday’s Neutral Milk Hotel show is sold out, but if you’re still hoping to catch the indie rockers in action, there are still tickets available for the Wednesday night performance. Benefit concerts help fun the free shows that run throughout the summer, so snag a seat, rock out, and feel good about showing a little love for BRIC.

Author Talk: Rally Caps, Rain Delays and Racing Sausages

Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Ever dreamed of visiting every major league baseball stadium? Brooklynite and author Eric S. Kabakoff did just that, and recounts the tale in his book, Rally Caps, Rain Delays And Racing Sausages. Come meet Eric on Thursday evening as he shares some of the stories from his adventure.
