South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: July 13-15

Don’t wait until the weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from superheroes and comedy, to poetry and eclectic tunes, folks in the Slope won’t have to go far for summertime entertainment. Below are some of our favorite events from around the area.

Quarter Life Crisis Comedy Open Mic
When: Monday, July 13, 7pm
Where: Supercollider, 609 4th Avenue between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Looking for laughs, or need a spot to test out your material? Signup for Supercollider’s open mic comedy night starts at 7pm on Monday. There’s no cover, but you must be over 21 to enter.
How much: Free.

Having A Whiskey Coke With You
When: Tuesday, July 14, 9pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Come out to Freddy’s on Tuesday night for “a reading and performance series featuring a community of New York’s finest poets, writers, musicians, performers and artists.” In addition to the scheduled performers, there’s also an open mic. Those interested in reading can sign up at Freddy’s the night of the event.
How much: Free.

Story Play
When: Wednesday, July 15, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Bring the family out to the library on Monday morning for stories, games, and fun with friends. Geared toward children ages birth to 3 years.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), be sure to arrive early.

Superhero Training Lab: Mask Making With Mark Ziemann
When: Wednesday, July 8, 3-4pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Wednesday’s Park Slope Library craft hour has kids (ages 6 and up) rocking themed crafts, listening to superhero stories, and more! Note that younger children are welcome as long as they’re accompanied by an adult.
How much: Free, but limited to 20 participants, so get there early to guarantee a spot.

Shape Up NYC: Glutes In Gear
When: Wednesday, July 15, 6-7pm
Where: Prospect Park, Audubon Center
What: Looking for a belly-busting, booty shaping workout? This two-part class focuses on high-endurance cardio and mat work to build your core, and flatten and tighten your abs and glutes. No registration is required, but be sure to bring your own mat.
How much: Free.

Sean Cronin’s VERY GOOD
When: Wednesday, July 15, 8pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street near 6th Avenue
What: With an eclectic sound influenced by folk, rock, classical, jazz, improvised music, and elements of ethnic musics from Eastern Europe and Africa, you’re definitely in for a treat when Sean Cronin hits the Barbes stage on Wednesday.
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation.
