South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: January 4-6
Welcome to 2016! If you’re sticking around the Slope and looking for adventure this week, we’ve got everything from comedy and skating, to musical trios and art to keep you and the family entertained. Here are some of our favorite events from around the area.

Comedy Open Mic Night
When: Monday, January 4, 6:30pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Looking for a fantastic spot to test out your new material? Make your way to Freddy’s for their weekly open mic comedy night. Register early by emailing jennifer.salzman@gmail.com. Walk-ins are also welcome on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign-up begins at 6pm, and the first comic hits the stage at 6:30pm.
How much: No cover, but comics must purchase at least one item from the bar for a 7-minute set.
Rock With Adam
When: Tuesday, January 5, 1:30pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score your ticket.
Figure Skating Freestyle Sessions
When: Tuesday, January 5, 7pm
Where: LeFrak Center, Lakeside
What: Bring your skates and enjoy a freestyle skating session at Lakeside every Tuesday night.
How much: $9 general admission
The Akiko Pavolka Trio
When: Tuesday, January 5, 7pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street and 6th Avenue
What: Join singer, pianist, and composer Akiko Pavolka as she performs new music from her soon-to-be-released sixth record as a leader at Barbes on Tuesday.
How much: $10 strongly suggested donation.
Kids Create
When: Wednesday, January 6, 4:15-5pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Need some after school activities on Wednesday? Head over to our local library for crafts, stories, and other fun things to do. Note that the program is geared toward children six and up, but younger kids are welcome with an adult.
How much: Free.
