South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: August 3-5

Don’t wait until the weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from country and blues, to free skating and movies under the stars, folks in the Slope won’t have to go far for summertime entertainment. Below are some of our favorite events from around the area.

The Brain Cloud
When: Monday, August 3, 7pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street near 6th Avenue
What: Make your way to Barbes on Monday night and let Brain Cloud serenade you with their Bob Wills inspired “New Orleans-meets-Texas, strings-meet-horns, jazz-meets-country sound.” It’s great stuff.
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation.

Ragtime And Bluez Jam
When: Tuesday, August 4, 9pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Miss Ida Blue hosts a brand new “sleazy greasy love jam” at Freddy’s on Tuesday night. In addition to Miss Ida, look for Dan Block on reeds, Brian Nalepka on tuba/bass, and Conal Fowkes on piano.
How much: $10 suggested donation.

Story Play
When: Wednesday, August 5, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Bring the family out to the library on Monday morning for stories, games, and fun with friends. Geared toward children ages birth to 3 years.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), be sure to arrive early.

KIDtivity
When: Wednesday, August 5, 11am-6pm
Where: LeFrak Center, Lakeside
What: As the summer rolls on, you may be running of ways to keep the kids busy, happy, and out of your hair. Lakeside has your back on Wednesday, with their day of KIDtivities. From 11am to 6pm, look for everything from fitness classes and puppet shows, to free skating and cooking classes.
How much: Free, but reservations are strongly recommended. For more information, call Lakeside at 718-462-0010.

Superhero Training Lab
When: Wednesday, August 5, 3-4pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Wednesday’s Park Slope Library craft hour has kids (ages 6 and up) rocking themed crafts, listening to superhero stories, and more! Note that younger children are welcome as long as they’re accompanied by an adult.
How much: Free, but limited to 20 participants, so get there early to guarantee a spot.

Shape Up NYC: Glutes In Gear
When: Wednesday, August 5, 6-7pm
Where: Prospect Park, Audubon Center
What: Looking for a belly-busting, booty shaping workout? This two-part class focuses on high-endurance cardio and mat work to build your core, and flatten and tighten your abs and glutes. No registration is required, but be sure to bring your own mat.
How much: Free.

Summer Movie Under The Stars
When: Wednesday, August 5, 7-11pm
Where: Prospect Park, Long Meadow North
What: Nothing says summer like movies in the park! Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams and the Prospect Park Alliance present screenings of family films every Wednesday on Long Meadow. Entertainment begins at 7pm, and the movies will start after sunset. May the odds be ever in your favor as you try and find a stellar seat at this week’s showing of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.
How much: Free.
