South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: August 17-19

Don’t wait until the weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from Miss Nina and the Jumping Jacks, to “throbbing funk groves” and comedy, folks in the Slope won’t have to go far for summertime entertainment. Below are some of our favorite events from around the area.

Ed Sullivan on Acid
When: Monday, August 17, 6pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Need a laugh to make it through these dog days of summer? Get thee to Freddy’s for “Brooklyn’s longest running comedy stand up” on Monday night.
How much: No Cover.

Library Movie Time
When: Tuesday, August 18, 1-3pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Take a break from the heat at Park Slope Library’s Tuesday movie afternoon, where Emmet, Wildstyle, Unikitty and the gang try to stop Lord Business from squirting kragle all over the place in 2014’s The Lego Movie.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), be sure to arrive early.

Slavic Soul Party
When: Tuesday, August 18, 9pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street near 6th Avenue
What: If you’re looking for “fiery Balkan brass, throbbing funk grooves, Gypsy accordion wizardry, and virtuoso jazz chops,” don’t miss Slavic Soul Party, hitting the Barbes stage on Tuesday night.
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation.

Miss Nina And The Jumping Jacks
When: Wednesday, August 19, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Bring the family out to the library on Wednesday morning for “sing-a-long, move-a-long, read-a-long fun,” as Miss Nina and her band, The Jumping Jacks, stop by. You won’t want to miss it!
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), be sure to arrive early.

KIDtivity
When: Wednesday, August 19, 11am-6pm
Where: LeFrak Center, Lakeside
What: As the summer rolls on, you may be running out of ways to keep the kids busy, happy, and out of your hair. Lakeside has your back on Wednesday, with their day of KIDtivities. From 11am to 6pm, look for everything from fitness classes and puppet shows, to free skating and cooking classes.
How much: Free, but reservations are strongly recommended. For more information, call Lakeside at 718-462-0010.

Superhero Training Lab
When: Wednesday, August 19, 3-4pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Wednesday’s Park Slope Library craft hour has kids (ages 6 and up) rocking themed crafts, listening to superhero stories, and more! Note that younger children are welcome as long as they’re accompanied by an adult.
How much: Free, but limited to 20 participants, so get there early to guarantee a spot.
