South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: April 28-30

Don’t wait until this weekend for a little neighborhood fun! Here are a few of the events that are taking place in our area through Wednesday:

Shape Up NYC: Couch To 5k
When: Monday, April 28, 7pm
Where: Meets in Prospect Park on the porch of Lefferts Historic House
What: With rain forecast for much of this week, take advantage of Monday’s sunny skies, lace up those sneakers, and make your fitness dreams a reality in Prospect Park. The weekly class combines group running, walking, and conditioning exercises to get you in shape for long distance running.
How much: Free.

Financial Literacy Workshop
When: Tuesday, April 29, 5pm to 7pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue and 9th Street
What: Do you have questions or concerns about your finances? Bring any financial documents you have up to the Park Slope library on Tuesday for one-on-one counseling with volunteers from NY Cares and other city non-profits.
How much: Free.

Bully Me Down
When: Tuesday and Wednesday, April 29 and 30, 8pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: What’s better than a frosty beer at Freddy’s? Free theatre and a frosty beer at Freddy’s! Don’t miss Letter of Marque Theater Company’s production of Bully Me Down, which chronicles the “cycle of bullying through three interweaving storylines.” The show is about an hour and a half (with intermission), and is intended for adult audiences.
How much: Free.

Navigating The High School Choice Process
When: Wednesday, April 30, 6pm
Where: New Voices MS 443, 330 18th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues
What: If your family has questions about the high school application process, join DOE representative Morris Frumkin for a discussion on what next year’s 8th graders can expect. Mr. Frumkin will offer suggestions about what you can start doing to prepare for 8th grade, a general overview of how the process works, and a Q & A about high schools and the admission process.
How much: Free.

Kings Bay Y Disco Time
When: Wednesday, April 30, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 6th Avenue, between 8th and 9th Street
What: Ready to party? Yoni the Puppet is bringing an interactive Hebrew story time and sing-a-long to the Park Slope Library. Expect lots of dancing, smiles, and laughter from your little Park Sloper! Recommended for kids ages 0-5.
How much: Free, but tickets (one per family) are required, so arrive early to secure to spot.
