South Slope Weekday Events Spotlight: June 15-17

Don’t wait until the weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from blues and family films, to crafts and Damien Rice, South Slope is definitely the place to be through Wednesday. Below are some of our favorite events from around the area.

Tropical Vortex Monday
When: Monday, June 15, 9:30pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street and 6th Avenue
What: The snow and ice may be long gone, but Tropical Vortex Monday is still going strong at Barbes. This week, it’s all about cumbia, when Cumbiagra takes the stage.
How much: $10 strongly suggested donation.

Blues On Tuesday
When: Tuesday, June 16, 10pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Local band Fife and Drom hosts an incredible night of classic blues at Freddy’s on Tuesday night.
How much: Free.

Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, June 17, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score your ticket.

Library Movie Time
When: Wednesday, June 17, 3pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: If this hard-knock life has you down lately, don’t miss the library’s family screening of 2014’s Annie – a film sure to turn those frowns upside down (or at least distract the kids long enough for you to have a little break).
How much: Free.

Kids Create
When: Wednesday, June 17, 4:15-5pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: The library is hopping on Wednesday. When the kids return home from school, head over to our local branch for crafts, stories, and other fun activities. Note that the program is geared toward children six and up, but younger kids are welcome with an adult.
How much: Free.

Shape Up NYC: Glutes In Gear
When: Wednesday, June 17, 6-7pm
Where: Prospect Park, Audubon Center
What: Looking for a belly-busting, booty shaping workout? This two-part class focuses on high-endurance cardio and mat work to build your core, and flatten and tighten your abs and glutes. No registration is required, but be sure to bring your own mat.
How much: Free.

Celebrate Brooklyn: Damien Rice
When: Wednesday, June 17, 7:30pm
Where: Prospect Park Bandshell, Prospect Park West at 9th Street
What: Tickets are still available for this week’s benefit concert, starring Irish singer and songwriter, Damien Rice. Wednesday is forecast to give us a break from all the rain, too, so grab those tickets and Celebrate Brooklyn!
How much: $48
