South Slope Weekday Events Roundup: August 31 – September 2
Don’t wait until the weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from bullerengue and ragtime, to movies and Lakeside activities galore, folks in the Slope won’t have to go far for summertime entertainment. Below are some of our favorite events from around the area.

Bulla En El Barrio
When: Monday, August 31, 9pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street near 6th Avenue
What: Barranquilla native Carolina Oliveros explores the Bailes Cantados of Bullerengue music, while weaving in a bit of classical music, jazz and rock with Bulla En El Barrio at Barbes Tuesday night.
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation.
Ragtime And Bluez Jam
When: Tuesday, September 1, 9pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Miss Ida Blue hosts a brand new “sleazy greasy love jam” at Freddy’s on Tuesday night. In addition to Miss Ida, look for Dan Block on reeds, Brian Nalepka on tuba/bass, and Conal Fowkes on piano.
How much: $10 suggested donation.
Library Movie Time
When: Tuesday, September 1, 1:30-3:15pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Take a break from the heat at Park Slope Library’s Tuesday movie afternoon, where Eggs and Winnifred take on Archibald Snatcher in The Boxtrolls.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), be sure to arrive early.
KIDtivity
When: Wednesday, September 2, 11am-6pm
Where: LeFrak Center, Lakeside
What: As the summer rolls on, you may be running out of ways to keep the kids busy, happy, and out of your hair. Lakeside has your back on Wednesday, with their day of KIDtivities. From 11am to 6pm, look for everything from fitness classes and puppet shows, to free skating and cooking classes.
