South Slope Past: Fourth Avenue’s PS 124

At first glance it might look like somebody has been playing around with their black and white Instagram controls again, but the above picture of PS 124 (515 4th Ave) was actually taken on April 19, 1901.

While we’ve got a few more trees surrounding the building today, and the large rooftop flagpole has been replaced by a smaller one over the main entry, the exterior of the school is very similar to the way it was over a century ago.

Wood frame homes appear to make up the stretch of 14th Street where the Park Slope Neighborhood Family Center currently sits, and then there are the cobblestone streets.

We love the old cobblestone streets.
