South Slope Events Spotlight: November 21-24

From arts and crafts to Combat Jazz, South Slope is definitely the place to be this weekend. Here’s a few of the events that are taking place over the next few days:

Community Traffic Safety Forum
When: Thursday, November 21, 7:30pm
Where: Congregation Beth Elohim, 274 Garfield Place at 8th Avenue
What: Daniel Hurewitz and Adam White are hosting a traffic safety meeting, where neighbors will be able to discuss what actions the city is already taking, help brainstorm a list of safety measures that you think are needed, and then begin strategizing initiatives and ways to put pressure on city leaders.
How much: Free!

Explore And Create: Arts And Crafts For Kids
When: Friday, November 22, 4pm-5pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: There’s some rain in the forecast for Friday afternoon, so bring the kids over to the Park Slope Library for an afternoon of arts and crafts. No registration is required.
How Much: Free!

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Screening
When: Saturday, November 23, 2pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Street
What: We’ve got another Doctor Who Anniversary party happening in the hood! Watch the special with the gang at Freddy’s Saturday afternoon, and be sure to grab one of their “Sonic Screwdriver” drink specials.
How much: Free!

Cookbook Tasting Series With Melissa Vaughan
When: Saturday, November 23, 4pm to 5pm
Where: Powerhouse on 8th, 1111 8th Ave, between 11th and 12th Street
What: You can’t get much better than a cookbook signing with tasty food! Melissa Vaughan, author of The New Brooklyn Cookbook will prepare dishes from the cookbook BALABOOSTA. Einat Admony, author and owner of the NYC restaurants Balaboosta, Taim, and Bar Bolonat, will also be on-hand to sign copies of her book.

Combat Jazz
When: Sunday, November 24, 7pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street at 6th Avenue
What: End your epic weekend with a little music from Combat Jazz, who Barbes says “investigates the nexus between world music, garage rock and modal jazz, with an emphasis on improvisation.”
How much: A $10 (very strongly) suggested donation.
