South Slope Events Spotlight: February 6-9
From an all-girl Beatles tribute band from Japan to the Beer Olympics, South Slope is the place to be this weekend. Check out some of our favorite events from around the neighborhood:
Something Real Book Launch
When: Thursday, February 6-8pm
Where: Powerhouse on 8th, 1111 8th Avenue, between 11th and 12th Street
What: Come out to Powerhouse for the young adult book launch of Something Real by author and South Slope local Heather Demetrios.
How much: Free, but RSVP is appreciated. Email RSVP@POWERHOUSEon8th.com to reserve your spot.
The Clover
When: Friday, February 7, 10pm
Where: Freddy’s, 567 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Nothing says start to a fantastic weekend like an all girl Beatles tribute band from Japan (pictured above)! For more information, and a complete lineup of the other groups playing Friday night, visit the Freddy’s website.

Beer Olympics
When: Saturday, February 8, 1pm
Where: Greenwood Park, 555 7th Avenue, between 19th and 20th Streets
What: Move over Sochi, the Greenwood Park Beer Olympics are here. Teams made up of at least four players will battle it out in such time-honored events as beer pong, flip cup, case race, quarters, and corn hole for “exciting prizes,” and of course the prestige of being named best of the best beerthletes in the borough.
How Much: $30, but that gives you access to a 3 hour open beer bar (sweet).
Cooking Night: Comer y Biber
When: Sunday, February 9, 4:40-5:30pm
Where: 440 Gallery, 440 6th Avenue, between 9th and 10th Streets
What: Impress your next dinner guests with a stellar guacamole and salsa recipe from food writer and recipe developer Liza Schoenfein. Liza will visit 440 Gallery for a cooking demonstration on Sunday, and to read from her upcoming book, Life, Death, and Dinner.
How much: Free!
