South Slope Events Spotlight: February 14 – 17
From teen angst to jazz hands, there are a million things to do in South Slope this weekend. These are our top picks:
Thursday, January 14
We can’t think of a better way to spend your Valentine’s Day than listening to some of the finest examples of teen angst known to man. Come Cringe at Freddy’s (627 5th Ave), as brave souls read from their “teenage diaries, journals, notes, letters, poems, abandoned rock operas, and other general representations of the crushing misery of their humiliating adolescence.” The fun kicks off at 7:30. No cover.
Friday, January 15
Mary’s Bar (708 5th Ave) has DJ Hearsay kicking it old school with vinyl records all night long. No cover.
Saturday, January 16
Brooklyn Lacrosse will be holding the second of three FREE clinics this Saturday at P.S. 10 (511 7th Ave). Kids from PK – 8th Grade are invited to attend. Sign up online for one of three time slots:
PK – 2nd Grade: Noon – 1pm
Girls 3rd Grade – 8th Grade: 1pm – 2pm
Boys 3rd Grade – 8th Grade: 2pm – 3pm
Sticks will be provided, and free t-shirts will be given to all attendees. One additional clinic will be held on Saturday, February 23. Families are invited (and encouraged) to attend both of the final weekends. For more information, call Brooklyn Lacrosse at 917-715-2524.
Sunday, January 17
It’s time to start working on those jazz hands, because Cafe Steinhof (422 7th Ave) will be showing West Side Story this Sunday at 10:30pm. No cover.
