South Slope Events Spotlight: August 22 – 25

Whether you’re dying for a drink, or looking for the hippest tots in town, South Slope is the place to be this weekend. Here are our top neighborhood picks

Final Green-Wood Happy Hour
When: Thursday, August 22, 6pm to 8pm
Where: Green-Wood Cemetery, 25th Street and 5th Avenue
What: The Weather Channel says that the rain is supposed to end by early evening, so make your way to Green-Wood for the final Drinks to Die For beer garden event of the summer.
How much: Entry is free, but drink tickets are $5 each.

Alex Mallett and Friends
When: Friday, August 23, 10pm
Where: 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Street
What: Alex Mallett will join his friends Union street Preservation Society, Chris Q Murphy, Barnyard Brothers, and Gypsy George for a Friday night of music. Freddy’s notes on their website that “Alex is very popular,” so come on down and hang with the cool kids.
How much: Free!

Olmsted in Autumn
When: Saturday, August 24, 7:30pm and 8:30pm
Where: Open Source Gallery, 306 17th Street, between 5th and 6th Avenue
What: Part of Elizabeth Spavento’s installation, We Know Not Where or How, Anne Phelan’s one-act play “looks at Frederick Law Olmsted near the end of his life. Because of his advancing senility, he has ceased working and his family has committed him to the McLean Hospital. He is visited by three ghosts with whom he has unfinished business.”
How much: Free!

Family Day at Greenwood Park
When: Sunday, August 25, noon to 3pm
Where: 555 7th Avenue at 19th Street
What: Bring the kids to Greenwood Park for an afternoon of games, crafts, performances, snacks, and a chance to win free babysitting (!!!), camp passes, gift certificates and other goodies from local companies! Special guests include author Ambre Anderson and Rolie Polie Guacamole.
How much: Free!
