South Slope Bars Are Partying on New Year’s Eve
Looking for something to do on New Year’s Eve that won’t cost you an entire month’s pay just to get in the door? Look no further than your own back yard. South Slope bars will be rocking on December 31, so we’ve put together a list of some of your best options for ringing in the New Year.
Greenwood Park (555 7th Ave) presents their first annual New Year’s Eve Jam from 9pm til the cows come home, featuring DJ Mikey Palms, Emel, and Blue Gemz. No cover, food and drink specials all night long, a midnight toast, and enough room to actually move around in, will definitely make this a NYE hot spot.
The Monro Pub (481 5th Ave) makes our geeky, high school class of ’98 heart swoon this New Year’s Eve, with their gala celebration that features free noisemakers, hats, a champagne toast…and ’90’s party hits. Bring on the Lisa Loeb, Presidents of the United States of the America, and Barenaked Ladies! No cover.
The Dram Shop (339 9th Street), reminds us that,”Liquor liquor, beer beer, it’s the booziest time of the year!” Be sure to stop by from 9pm til late. No cover, your first drink is on the house, champagne toast at midnight, and most importantly, DJ Ben is spinning “hella tight grooves.” Hella is officially our favorite flashback word of the day, and we plan to use it as much as possible.
Never Say Never Again, at Mary’s Bar (708 5th Ave), from 8pm til 4am. DJ Crazy Bird will be on tap, bottles of bubbly will be handed out to those with the cutest outfits, and a free champagne toast at midnight, all make us shout, “Hail Queen Mary.” No cover.
What would New Year’s Eve be without Freddy’s Bar and Backroom (627 5th Ave)? As their Facebook event says, “It’s free, it’s cool, and it’s fun.” Don’t need much more than that, do we? No cover.
Right next door at South (629 5th Ave), they’re also touting free fun, and “free toast” at midnight. Wonder if it will be wheat or white? No cover.
Are we missing anyone? Let us know in the comments.
