Snow Day: Details On Sledding, Garbage Collection And More
Snow on 12th Street

The snow has arrived and kids around the Slope are cheering after the city made a pre-dawn call canceling all New York Public School classes, after school programs, and PSAL games on Friday, January 3.

As was announced on Thursday, alternate side parking has also been suspended on Friday (meters are still in effect). Additionally, garbage and recycling pickup will be delayed until the snow plows have finished clearing the streets. DNSY says to go ahead and leave your garbage on the curb, though, and they’ll pick it up ASAP.

Our intrepid video producer Jeff Bush braved the elements around 7am and said he had no problems riding the F train into midtown. How were the rails for your commute this morning?

If the kids are already waiting at the door with their sled, here’s a great map of the most popular sledding hills in Prospect Park. It’s going to be crazy cold outside today, though, so keep these tips from the  New York City Office of Emergency Management in mind:

• Wear a hat, hood, or scarf.

• Wear layers, as they provide better insulation and warmth.

• Keep fingertips, earlobes, and noses covered if you go outside.

• Keep clothing dry; if a layer becomes wet, remove it.

Be sure to check in on any family members or neighbors that might need a little extra help after the storm, and don’t forget about those snow removal rules. Mayor de Blasio hit the sidewalks early, though we can’t help but wonder what deal Dante struck with his dad to get an early morning reprieve.

Stay safe out there, and if you snap any photos of the snow that you’d like to share, send them to editor@bklyner.com.
