Sad news for area kids this morning. New York City schools are officially open Wednesday. From the Department of Education:

Chancellor Carmen Fariña today announced that schools will be open tomorrow, and all student after-school programs and PSAL games will resume their normal schedules. Travel conditions may be difficult, and families should exercise their own judgment when taking their children to school.  Families of students with disabilities who have transportation concerns can call 718-392-8855 for assistance starting at 5:30 am.

It’s bitterly cold out there, with wind chills in the negative teens, so be sure to dress in layers and cover your extremities when you hit the streets.

As a reminder, alternate side parking has been suspended to facilitate snow removal. Meters are still in effect, though, so don’t forget to feed the Muni. Garbage and recycling collection has also been suspended.

The MTA says that subways are “near normal” this morning, but for the latest in weather-related public transit changes, follow @NYCTSubwayScoop.

If you’re looking to make some cash, Sanitation does hire snow laborers to clear public areas, just call 311 to learn how to get involved.
