Smith/9th St Station to Open Week of April 22!
The opening has been pushed back again, but we are indeed getting closer to seeing the Smith/9th Street F/G subway station open after being closed for construction for nearly two years. The MTA says it expects to reopen the station the week of April 22:
The station reconstruction work included a new and expanded street-level control house, a new architectural metal panel escalator enclosure and rehabilitated stairs and platforms. The project also called for the installation of new lighting, state-of-the-art public address and CCTV systems, as well as a 14-foot-tall mosaic, installed as part of the MTA Arts for Transit.
After the station is back open, they expect there will be some ongoing work on some smaller bits as they finish up, but nothing, in theory, to close it down again.
