Welcome to the weekend, which features many events: A morbid flea market, some swingadelic, a Brooklyn Brain Jam, and a lot more! Don’t miss some of our favorite events from around the area:

‘I Know You Got Soul’ Funk n’ Soul Dance Party
When: Friday, March 4, 7pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Brooklyn’s premier Funk’n’Soul dance party find a new home and and new night every first Friday with DJ’s Pat, Jae Trevor and Ben the Beyonder spinning deep cuts and classic from the soul stompers of the 60’s to space-age funk and everything in between! “Grown-ass music for grown-ass folks!”
How much: Free.

Swingadelic Plays Jump-Blues
When: Friday, March 4, 7pm — one hour dance session; 8pm-11pm — Swingadelic
Where: Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture, 53 Prospect Park West at 2nd Street
What: Whether it be a cocktail trio up to a fourteen piece big band, Swingadelic has been playing their brand of swingin’ Jazz & Blues since 1998. Started in Hoboken NJ by bassist & bandleader Dave Post, the band continues to play a busy schedule of swing dances, concerts, festivals and private events. Swingadelic maintains a weekly Monday night gig at Swing 46, a popular dinner/dance venue on NYC’s Restaurant Row, and has appeared at Lincoln Center’s Mid-Summer Night Swing, NJPAC, Madison Park and private and corporate events from Boston to Atlanta. Renowned dance instructor Arturo Perez has been teaching, performing and socially dancing for over 25 years, with the last 15 years in NYC. As part of his teaching, he presents clear instruction in following and leading techniques, all the while keeping the joy in the dance. Arturo has placed 3rd at Lincoln Center’s Ambassador Program in 2013 and he also teaches the beginner lesson at Swing 46 on restaurant row Thursday and Saturday nights. In addition to swing, he currently teaches 40 different styles of dance to youth, adults and seniors in NYC.
How much: $20 general, and $17 for COOP members, students, seniors. Kids welcome and free under 12 years old

New Members’ Show at 440 Gallery
When: Thursdays and Fridays, 4:00-7:00pm; Saturdays and Sundays, 11:00am-7:00pm. Exhibit through March 20.
Where: 440 Gallery, 440 6th Avenue, between 9th and 10th Streets
What: 440 Gallery presents the work of six new members of the Gallery. The exhibit is curated by veteran 440 Gallery artist Karen Gibbons. Works by new members Jo-Ann Acey, Eric Banks, Richard Barnet, Leigh Blanchard, Joy Makon, and Amy Weil. Read about our coverage of the exhibit.

Party Like It’s 1999: 25 Years of R.E.M’s Out of Time Edition
When: Saturday, March 5, 10pm
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street (between 2nd and 3rd Avenues)
What: In March 1991 alternative radio was dominated by the sound of on instrument – the mandolin! R.E.M.’s biggest hit, “Losing My Religion” was everywhere when Out of Time hit stores the second week of March. Party Like It’s 1999: 25 Years of R.E.M’s Out of Time Edition will mark the anniversary of their first #1 album with an opening rock block with the best of R.E.M.’s 1990s catalog. After that DJ Steve will serve up our usual mix of the best pop, R&B, hip-hop and dance tunes from the 1990s. And as always, it’s free!
How much: Free.

Morbid Anatomy Flea Market at the Bell House
When: Sunday, March 6, 12pm-6pm (Members can enter at 11am)
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street, between 2nd and 3rd Avenues
What: Don’t miss the first Flea Market of the season. A one stop shop event for all your Christmas shopping need at the Bell House, with more vendors and more space! Antique hunters and curiosity collectors know than nothing is better than a lazy Sunday spent at a great flea market; at this one, you’ll find all of your favorite artists, makers and antique peddlers.
How much: $1; add $7 to go to see the Museum Exhibition.

Smorgasburg and The Brooklyn Flea at Industry City
When: Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6, 10am-6pm
Where: Industry City, 241 37th Street (between 2nd and 3rd Avenues)
What: Last Fall, Smorgasburg moved down to the booming Industry City, which may be new territory for you. While the move was announced some time ago, Industry City is housing both Smorgasburg and The Brooklyn Flea every Saturday and Sunday until March 27, 2016. Keep in mind that Industry City is big — the entrance address is 241 37th Street. This is just two blocks from the 36th Street D/N/R subway station—only two stops from Manhattan on the D train!—and a short walk from the B35, B38 and B70 bus stops. The 39th Street exit off the Gowanus Expressway/BQE also takes you pretty much to their doorstep (and to the second-busiest Costco in America next door).  Smorgasburg will be heading back up to Prospect Park on April 3.

Dicking Around with Kyle Ayers
When: Sunday, March 6, 7:30pm (door), 8:00pm (show)
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street and 5th Avenue
What: Host Kyle Ayers invites some of his favorite comedians and other types of people to perform stand up, and generally dick around on stage. Comedy sets accompanied by a few bizarre concept comedy bits along the lines of: the Boast Rattle (a roast-style compliment competition), Historic Events Retold by YouTube’s Closed Caption Robot, Pop-Up Cinema, Non-sexual Craigslist Encounters, Rejected Google Doodles, Children’s Books Rewritten by Famous Authors, and more! Things you’ve never seen before in a place that sells alcohol! With Nick Vatterott, Ashley Brooke Roberts, Julio Torres, and Nate Fernald.
How Much: $6, tickets available in advance. $8 at the door. 21 and over. This event will be mixed seated/standing. Arrive early for best seat selection.

The 3rd Annual Brooklyn Brain Jam
When: Sunday, March 6, 2pm-7pm
Where: Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street (between 3rd and 4th Avenues)
What: The Big Quiz Thing brings their multimedia game-show to NYC trivia buffs, thrilling them with six rounds of live quiz action, including the Lightning Round, the Text Message Challenge and the Buzzertastic Three Way Finale. With video and audio puzzles to boggle and cash prizes at stake, TBQT guarantees an exciting night of entertainment. For the non-geeky: “Smart-Ass Points” for wrong but funny answers! The show is founded by comedian and former editor for Rolling Stone and Time Out New York, Noah Tarnow. He’s been a regular guest on NPR’s Ask Me Another and has been dubbed “a geek savant” by Gawker.
