Sing For Hope Piano Coming To Prospect Park

Sing for Hope, an organization that works to bring art and “a voice” to the streets of New York, will be placing a piano near the Prospect Park Carousel this Saturday, June 1.

The group worked with over 1,000 volunteer artists to make 88 old pianos into accessible works of art–and hopes the availability of music at New Yorkers’ fingertips will inspire them to play a song or two of their own.

The piano closest to Ditmas was painted by Clinton Hill-based Ellie Balk, who took a cue from the carousel horses–and from the piano itself, which she says reminded her of a pony. Ellie also painted a piano for Sing for Hope’s installation in 2011.

Each piano will be around until June 16, accompanied at all times by a volunteer “buddy” to protect it from inclement weather.
