Signage Spotting: Patsy’s, BK9, And More
With so many things coming and going in the neighborhood from year to year, it can be hard to keep track. But occasionally we get a sign — literally — that reminds us of what’s on the way. Here are a few we spotted this week.
Patsy’s Pizzeria, 450 Dean Street near Flatbush Avenue: The famed coal-oven pizza place, which started slinging pies in East Harlem in 1933, was first rumored to be coming to the neighborhood back in May of last year. While we’re still waiting for a potential opening date, they just unveiled their handsome new storefront and signage. One thing we do know — during their December meeting, Community Board 6 approved of an outdoor space, which they say will have a canopy and will close at 11pm, to keep noise down for neighbors.
BK9, 62 5th Avenue, between Bergen and St Marks: Not to far away from Patsy’s is this forthcoming restaurant and bar that’s taking over a former church. The front has been completely made over and is looking very sleek. As for what’s coming inside, expect Caribbean-inspired food that’s a play on what the nine guys behind the business grew up eating with their families in Brooklyn — check out a working menu here.
The Estaminet Brooklyn, 107A 7th Avenue at President: In case you missed it yesterday, we also recently noticed a new awning above the space that was most recently home to Spectacles on 7th. Unfortunately, what the awning says — “a hug in a mug, coffee, and more” — is all we know about the space so far, but it’s promising.
