If there’s one thing that all Clinton Hill residents — new, old, and veterans alike — appreciate, it is the neighborhood’s rich history, seen in its architecture, stories, businesses, and the very air we breathe. But too often, these memories and photographs are relegated to dusty shoeboxes and scrapbooks in grandma and grandpa’s attic, to be admired only during the holidays and other family gatherings.

But no more! Tomorrow, August 1, Clinton Hill Library is launching a Show And Tell oral and photographic history project to highlight the many stories we have about and in our beloved neighborhood.

Scheduled to run all month, the project requests “a picture and your written short caption/short story that tells the story of your Clinton Hill. It can be a picture of a person or persons, a place, a thing, a picturesque memory.”

“It’s something for the community,” explained Charisse Clark at the library. “One person already came in with a photo of four generations [of women] together.”

All submissions will be displayed throughout September in the library at 380 Washington Avenue for you and your neighbors to see, learn, and chat over.

If you moved away, you can also mail your submission to 380 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn, Ny 11238 or email it to cclark@bklynlibrary.org.
