[Updated] Man Shot In the Head Near Prospect Park
A 33-year-old man remains in critical condition after being shot in the head in Flatbush last night, just one block from Prospect Park. [Update 9/15: The victim, identified by police as Yearidin Gordon, was pronounced dead on September 13 at Kings County Hospital. Police believe that this shooting was gang related. There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.]
Police found the man on Wednesday September 7 at 7:40pm, outside of 87 Woodruff Avenue between St. Paul’s Place and Ocean Avenue, say cops. He was rushed to Kings County Hospital bleeding from a bullet wound to his head.
“There was three shots. He was lying there bleeding from the head,” said one witness, who wished to remain anonymous. “His backpack and baseball cap were on the ground. Everybody was running and screaming,” reported the New York Daily News.
No arrests have been made nor any motive found for this shooting, said police, and an investigation is ongoing. We will continue to update this story as more information is released.
This shooting happened less than one mile from where 2 people were shot and killed early Monday morning at the start of the J’Ouvert celebration; one block from where a man’s body was found with stab wounds in July; and a few blocks from the site of a fatal shooting of 38-year-old Gerald Cummings outside of P.S. 6 in August.
[Update 9/8: DNAinfo published a video of the shooting from surveillance footage, which is available here. But please be aware that the video contains graphic images.]
