BREAKING: Teen Shot Near Grady H.S. In Brighton Beach, Four Suspects In Custody

A 17-year-old has been shot on Brighton 4th Street and Brighton 4th Road in Brighton Beach, near William E. Grady High School.

The victim has been transported to the hospital. The extent of his injuries remains unknown. It is also unknown at this time if the shooter has been detained.

NYPD is on the scene establishing a crime scene.

The shooting did not happen on school grounds, though it’s unclear if the victim or suspect are affiliated with the school in any way.

UPDATE (4:40 p.m.): Police sources tell Sheepshead Bites that the 17-year-old victim was a male. He was shot in the back chest, and the injury does not appear to be life threatening.

He has been taken to Kings County Hospital Lutheran Medical Center.

Police have recovered the gun and taken four individuals into custody. No charges have yet been filed as the investigation is ongoing. It is not believed to be a gang-related incident.

The police source was unable to elaborate on the condition of the victim, or say whether anyone involved in the incident was affiliated with the school.

UPDATE (4:46 p.m.): A source tells Sheepshead Bites that the victim was a student at Grady High School.

UPDATE (6/7/2012 at 12:00 p.m.): The victim was trying to stop the suspects from robbing a 16-year-old boy who was also a student at the school. New details say he was shot in the chest, not the back, and was taken to Lutheran Medical Center, not Kings County Hospital.
