BOROUGH PARK – Police have charged a safety officer from the Shomrim neighborhood watch group with the rape of a 15-year old girl, the Daily News reported.

The accused, 59-year old Jacob Daskal of Borough Park, allegedly abused the girl between August and November of 2017, police told the outlet. Daskal has been charged with rape and criminal sex acts, plus forcible touching, sexual abuse and acting in a manner injurious to a child.

Daskal was a safety officer for the Brooklyn South Safety Patrol, part of the Hasidic community’s Shomrim neighborhood watch group.

The Shomrim itself has been under scrutiny in a federal probe into the role two businessmen and some NYPD supervisors played in acquiring gun licenses for Shomrim members. According to the Daily News, Daskal was not involved in that investigation.
