For the fourth time in six years, the Asian takeout joint at 1741 Sheepshead Bay Road has changed names – this time from Yashinoya to Asian Bay.
The restaurant previously changed its name to Yashinoya from Yoshinoya around 2012, if memory serves correctly. It became Yoshinoya in late 2008 or 2009, though nobody we’ve asked can recall the previous name (old listings have it down as Goody Chinese Restaurant, but that may have just been its incorporated name). At that time it only served Chinese food.
The restaurant’s current menu, a grab bag of Chinese, Japanese and Thai food, appears to be the same as it was under Yashinoya. And to answer the burning question that a handful of readers have asked by e-mail: an employee confirmed today that there has been no change in management or ownership. It’s just a name change. The employee could not say why.
Meet the new restaurant. Same as the old restaurant. Pretty much.
