Seventh Avenue Bite: Fish & Chips From Thistle Hill Tavern

Seventh Avenue Bite: Fish & Chips From Thistle Hill Tavern

If you ever find yourself trudging up the Slope in a thunderstorm (as we did last Friday), there’s a beacon of cozy comfort waiting at Thistle Hill Tavern on 7th Avenue at 15th Street.

We were craving fish and chips, but had no interest in swimming all the way over to Chip Shop on 5th Avenue, so we decided to pop by Thistle Hill on the

off-chance they had a table at 7pm. The inside was packed, but we were thrilled to discover that the patio was covered to the point that we could sit outside and eat. A number of spots were available, too, so we were seated immediately.

The waiter took our order, quickly returned with the drinks, and had our meals ready within 15 minutes. Not too shabby.

The fish and chip presentation was lovely, but the serving size was not as generous as the one at Chip Shop, and was a bit pricy ($19). That said, we were full at the end of the meal, and since its proximity to our house saved us further storm walking, it was worth it.

Our pollock was light and flaky, and held up well to dips in tarter sauce, and we loved the salt and pepper fries, which were included in the meal.

Overall, it was a tasty experience that we’re sure to repeat. Cheers, Thistle Hill!
