A 70-year-old man is fighting for his life after being struck in a hit-and-run in Bensonhurst Wednesday.

The senior was thrown from his motorized scooter into a pile of debris at the corner of 85th Street and 25th Avenue at approximately 3:45pm, police said.

Cops have shared footage of the white SUV, which they say was traveling north on 25th Avenue before it made a right onto 85th Street, striking the scooter. Witnesses told authorities that the driver stopped mid-block, exited the vehicle to assess the damage, and then drove off towards Stillwell Avenue.

Shaken witnesses spoke to PIX 11:

High School Freshman Jennifer Fahmy was on her way home and witnessed the incident. Fahmy told PIX11 she saw a white Kia sideswipe the scooter and the victim fall to the ground. “I was devastated, I was shocked, I didn’t know if he was dead or alive.”
“I saw it and it was pretty bad,” Veronica Almarz said. “He was bleeding from his face, his head, his knees, and he was laying in the dirt.”

The vehicle that fled the scene is described as a 2011-2015 white Jeep Grand Cherokee and it may have damage to the front right fender and bumper on the passenger side of the vehicle, according to the NYPD.

The elderly man was taken to Lutheran Hospital where he is in critical condition.
