Last week, State Senator Simcha Felder launched a new campaign encouraging kids to wear helmets when riding bicycles in the neighborhood, in response to a recent report that named the 66th Precinct one of the most dangerous places to ride a bike in the city.

Senator Felder spoke to children at several local day camps about the importance of bike safety.

“I was excited to talk to the children personally about helmet safety, and to hand out colorful activity books to them,” said Senator Felder in a statement. “It was so refreshing to be able to discuss the importance of wearing a helmet in a way that was enjoyable and educational.”

Starting Sunday, August 30 until Friday, September 4, any kid wearing a helmet while riding a bike can pick up a coupon for a free Klein’s ice cream from participating neighborhood toy stores.

Participating stores include:

The coupons can be redeemed at the Safety Sunday Extravaganza on Sunday, September 6 from 1-4pm at the Boro Park Ice Cream House at 2 Church Avenue.

The event will feature entertainment and special appearances by the NYPD, FDNY, Hatzolah, Shomrim, and others. There will also be a magician, clowns and prizes.
