See Ronald K. Brown & Evidence, A Dance Company’s “One Shot” This Month At BRIC (Partner)

For two weeks beginning this Thursday, November 6, Ronald K. Brown‘s Evidence, A Dance Company will bring choreographed multimedia performance One Shot to the BRIC House Ballroom (647 Fulton Street at Rockwell Place).

One Shot is based on the life of photographer Charles “Teenie” Harris, who is best known for his striking images of black communities in Pittsburgh over nearly four decades from 1936 to 1975.

In addition to Evidence’s choreography, One Shot will feature music by Anonimo Consejo, Mamadouba Mohammed Camara, Lena Horne, Phyllis Hyman, Ahmad Jamal, Arturo Sandoval, Billy Strayhorn, and Mary Lou Williams, as well as video projections by Clifton Taylor.

Each week of One Shot will also include a performance of a second Evidence piece–the scripture-based “Order My Steps” (with narration by poet Chadwick Boseman and music by Bob Marley, Fred Hammond, and Terry Riley) from November 6 to 8, and the Fela Kuti and Nina Simone-inspired “Come Ye” (with video collage by Robert Penn) from November 13 to 15.

“‘One Shot’ uses the idea of looking to the legacy of community and its echoing effect on other communities in their distinct definition and evolution,” BRIC says of the show.

You may reserve your spot for a 7:30 or 8pm performance here ($22 general admission; $16 students and seniors), or purchase tickets ($27 general; $20 for students and seniors) at the door.
