Artist and neighbor Karen Eve Friedland will show her work at a free open studio this Saturday, November 8, and Sunday, November 9, at her home, located at 190 Marlborough Road (between Albemarle and Beverley). The event will be held from 12-5pm both days.

In a press release Friedland sent to us, she described her paintings as “expressionistic in style” and as being “created with strong, vivid colors and energetic movement that impart a joyful feeling, making the viewers’ spirits soar.”

Painting in acrylic, mixed media and pastel, Friedland’s artwork is abstract and abstracted representation.

“Having a major sale of more than 30 paintings to a non-profit earlier in the year has left me with room to explore new artistic avenues and challenges and I look forward to sharing them with my neighbors and the larger New York community,” Friedland said in the press release.

More from Friedland:

Residing in the landmark district of Prospect Park South, the historic home provides an interesting juxtaposition to the contemporary art.
“Showing my work in this home setting allows visitors to more easily visualize what the art would look like in their own home,” remarked Friedland.
The artist has been an active member of the art community in Brooklyn and is the founder of the Flatbush Artists Studio Tour (which is happening November 15 & 16). An adopted Brooklynite, the artist pays tribute to her borough by including a Brooklyn Bridge symbol hidden in each painting. To add to the enjoyment, a contest will be held for those who find the Brooklyn Bridge in the paintings.

Admission for the tour is free, and refreshments will be served.
