Second Local Man This Week Barricades Himself In Apartment, Forcing Standoff With Police

Police were forced into tense standoff at a residential building for the second time this week after another local man barricaded himself in his apartment.

Cops say the 37-year-old man was armed with knife. The call came in at 11:30pm Thursday night for an apartment on the third floor at 2525 Batchelder Street, near Avenue Y. Police from the Emergency Service Unit were able to gain entrance to the apartment almost two hours later. The man was arrested and no injuries were reported, according to the NYPD.

Barely 24 hours earlier, police had to lock down a tower in Trump Village when an emotionally disturbed man barricaded himself in his 16th floor apartment. That man, said to be a Vietnam veteran suffering from PTSD, was taken to Coney Island Hospital for treatment, according to authorities.
