Scott Stringer Visits Newkirk Plaza In Bid For Comptroller
Walking through Newkirk Plaza this morning, we spotted none other than current Manhattan Borough President and City Comptroller hopeful Scott Stringer. Stringer, whose name is largely unfamiliar to Brooklyn voters as opposed to, say, opponent Eliot Spitzer’s, is upping his profile lately–notably, at the July 24 rally in Grand Army Plaza for fast food workers.
He now seems to be working his way across Flatbush, having stumped in District 45 last week alongside Councilmember Jumaane Williams. Said Politicker of the stop:
Unlike Mr. Spitzer, who has made only a few abbreviated public campaign stops, Mr. Stringer spent more than an hour with Mr. Williams at the packed intersection, sirens and car horns periodically blaring.
With the help of Mr. Williams, recognizable to many neighborhood residents, Mr. Stringer waded into brief conversations with voters, winning over several who were unfamiliar with the wonkish Manhattan borough president.
Stringer also greeted voters with Senator Eric Adams at Monday night’s gospel concert at Wingate Field.
“I’m no stranger to Flatbush,” Mr. Stringer said in the Politicker article. “But now I have to make my case so that’s why I’m here.”
Leon Kogut of Leon’s Fantasy Cut can vouch for Stringer’s presence in the area before–but he did miss one very important date.
“He said he was going to come to my 100th anniversary party,” he said. “He’s a little late!”
So, did you chat with Stringer this morning? Did anyone hear of him for the first time? Is he getting your vote? And, in addition to Stringer and de Blasio, which candidate(s) would you like to run into at your subway stop in the morning?
