Scenes From The Church Avenue Street Fair
What a great day it was.
We got to see and taste some of the great things coming our way. Church Ave is in a transition like never in my 15 years here. The Wheated team bringing a new restaurant, were here as judges on the cooking contest.

The Fat Beagle team were here showing us what they will have. The exotic iced teas were to die for.

The owners of the new Indian restaurant (scheduled to open in the next week!) were too busy setting up shop to have a tent, but they were out there to meet the neighbors.
The FDNY had a table where they gave away educational comic books and (very wisely) gave away smoke alarm batteries. Everyone took one and it’s probably fair to say someone’s dead alarm came to life tonight because they were here.

The Sean Casey Animal Rescue squad were there with some of the cutest dogs. I am not sure how many animals found a home today. But I know I heard a LOT of kids begging.
And finally, the Community Affairs team from the 70th were out all day to manage/meet the crowd.

It’s great to see the team who worked for years to make Church Ave so friendly, enjoy the community vibe they helped create.
And finally, Lauren Collins was a blue streak rushing around to make all this happen. Kudos to Ed Powell’s crew as partners in this event. But the woman of the hour, from selling Church Ave to our new establishments, to running the fair, is Lauren Collins.
