Scenes From The 2014 Church Avenue Street Fair

This year’s Church Avenue Street Fair was a smashing success! The weather managed to stay just warm and sunny enough, and neighbors, local businesses and organizations, and vendors turned out to celebrate one of the most exciting strips in our area. We took some photos of the afternoon as did a few local Instagrammers, but let’s start with some moments captured by Prospect Park South’s Nathan Thompson.

The fair was full of familiar faces, including Flatbush Development Corporation Executive Director Robin Redmond and Community Board 14 Chairman Alvin Berk…

… and CAMBA was on hand to inform neighbors about their life changing services.

So many people were interested in Q Gardens, said Anne Schoeneborn, that they ran out of informational fliers! When we stopped by around 3pm, they estimated having already handed out about 100 business cards for Barbara the Cat Lady, who’s helping them with their feral cat trapping efforts–so it sounded like their adoptable cats were close to finding permanent loving homes (happy note–Remus and Romulus were adopted soon after we posted about them a few weeks back, but as of yesterday, Morris was still up for grabs).

The Midwood Martial Arts crew showed off their butt kicking skills.

Do we spy a tandem bike?

Hartwell Vegetarian was serving up healthy grub, and some neighbors were feeling bubbly.

There was plenty of outdoor space for diners who wanted to soak up some sun…

… and Am Thai Bistro chatted with neighbors and served up deliciousness as usual.

Thanks to members of the 70th Precinct who oversaw yesterday’s festivities, offered neighbors safety tips, and engraved serial numbers on bikes.

Other places filling neighbors’ bellies included Anarkali, Wheated, Shayna’s, and Richie Rich.

Oh, and speaking of bellies–this time last year, Ashley and Matt of The Dogwood hadn’t even opened their restaurant yet. Yesterday, Matt was not about to let Ashley keep it under wraps (or aprons) that they’re expecting their first child!

Church Avenue BID Executive Director Lauren Elvers Collins was buzzing about all day, and made sure to stop by the Island Style Caribbean Fashion Show before models strutted down the runway in styles from Jacques Isaac, Wealthy Hostage, Berto for Kids, Bobby’s Department Store, Beverly Hills Bridal & Tuxedo, and more.
