Scam Alert: Con Ed Con Artist Making The Rounds

We just heard that a potential con artist is making the rounds in the vicinity of Brigham Street.

The alleged schemer is wearing a blue uniform similar to Con Edison workers, but was unable to provide identification to a skeptical resident who requested it. He is of Arabic descent and visiting houses as I write this.

This is not a new or unusual scam. These supposed workers tell you they need access to your home for an “inspection,” or request copies of recent bills that contain sensitive personal information. Sheepshead Bites reminds you not to let anyone in your home and do not provide personal information to strangers. Actual Con Edison workers are required to show identification; they would never ask for personal information, and they would not attempt to access your home without advance notification.
