Scaffolding Down At 4th-9th Subway Station

Scaffolding Down At 4th-9th Subway Station
4th ave 9th st subway station, no scaffolding

After several years of construction, it is pretty nice to see the unobstructed view of the 4th Avenue-9th Street subway station overpass this morning! Much of the scaffolding was down when neighbor Jeff Bush, who shares this photo, passed by this morning.

Over the summer, the MTA told us they expected the work, which had been stalled due to contractor issues, that the work at the station should be complete by the fourth quarter of 2014. As we’re nearing the end of the year, it’s great to see some physical indication that work may, in fact, wrap up soon.

While many neighbors will be happy just to walk through a construction-free station at this point, others feel a lot more could still be done to make this hub more of a pleasant place to be. Hear some ideas today, November 21, when the Park Slope Civic Council’s Forth on Fourth Committee, with others, present a pop-up installation about the station. Originally scheduled to occur at the stop, because of this work on the scaffolding, they’ve moved the event to 4th Ave and 4th St in front of JJ Byrne — it’s from 2-7pm, and they’re welcoming neighbors to share ideas of their own.
