Save the date, neighbors!

The Church Avenue Business Improvement District (BID) announced its annual street fair will be held on Sunday, April 26 from 12pm to 6pm on Church Avenue between Coney Island Avenue and Argyle Road.

The free event, which draws thousands of people to our area, will feature everything from a local chefs competition to DIY silk screening — and, of course, lots and lots of food and products from neighborhood artists and entrepreneurs.

“We are proud of the incredible diversity of businesses that come out of the Church Avenue BID area, and are excited that the distinctiveness of the area will be shared and experienced by all who attend the Street Fair,” Lauren Elvers Collins, the BID’s executive director, said in a press release.

Here’s a look at what this year’s festivities will include:

  • All day (between Coney Island Avenue and E. 10th Street): Print your own t-shirt with Medina Silk Screening. T-shirts will be provided while supplies last, or you can bring your own plain white t-shirt.
  • All-Day (between Coney Island Avenue and E. 10th Street): Composting by Q Gardens.
  • 1pm-2pm (between E. 10th Street and Stratford Road): The Chicken-on-Church food competition will challenge chefs from the Church Avenue BID to submit a dish, with the only stipulation being it has to include chicken. Participants include chefs from Am-Thai, Anarkali, Downtown Natural, El Acuario Restaurant, Golden Krust, Hunger Pang, Mallenche, and Shayna’s. Once the food is presented, a panel of eight local judges, including yours truly, Ditmas Park Corner’s Managing Editor Mary Bakija, BuzzFeed Editor-in-Chief Ben Smith, Councilman Mathieu Eugene, Assemblyman Jim Brennan, and others will dig into the creations and announce a winner.
  • 2:30pm (at E. 10th Street
)

: Zumba with Wendy Ann Powell.

  • 3pm (at E. 10th Street
)

: Acrobatics by Prospect Gymnastics.

Plus, the FDNY will be presenting an interactive fire safety exhibit, and the NYPD will be registering electronics. Both of those will be happening throughout the day at locations that are to be determined.

Everyone is welcome to attend this free fair, so come on out and enjoy the festivities! For more information about the event, visit the Church Avenue BID’s website, visit their Facebook and Twitter pages, call the BID at 718-282-2500 extension 79290, or email katiem@churchavenue.org.
