Saundra Thomas To Face Council Member Eugene In September Primary

Saundra Thomas

Certainly the most visible local political race happening next fall is the bid to succeed current tri-termer Michael Bloomberg at City Hall. But equally — if not more — important for city residents are their local City Council races. All 51 City Council seats are up for election. Some are open because of Members being term limited out while others, including our own District 40’s Mathieu Eugene, are up for re-election.

Lest you think Council Member Eugene is running unopposed, we’ve learned that Saundra Thomas, longtime Ditmas Park resident and former Vice President of Community Affairs for WABC-TV (as well as partner of Brooklyn ARTery‘s Susan Siegel), has thrown her hat into the ring. She’ll face Eugene in the Democratic Primary on September 10.

We’ll be posting an interview with Thomas next week in which she discusses her reasons for running and what she hopes to bring to the district. In the meantime, make sure you’re registered to vote by the August 16 deadline and stay tuned for much, much more. (Remember — the districts were redrawn after the 2010 census, so you may no longer live in District 40, especially some of you west of CIA.)

It’s shaping up to be an exciting election season!
