Our friends at the New Utrecht Reformed Church (827 84th Street) are hosting a free Christmas concert this Saturday.

The Grand Street Community Band, led by its artistic director and conductor, Brian Worsdale, will perform in the Parish House at the church on December 6 at 7:30pm.

The Grand Street Band is an all-volunteer symphonic wind ensemble whose adult members come from all professions and walks of life – including alumni of the Grand Street Campus High School in Williamsburg, from which the band takes its name. Bensonhurst native Brian Worsdale is best known to local audiences as founder and conductor of the InterSchools Orchestra’s Symphonic Band, “one of the pre-eminent youth wind ensembles in the New York area.”

Audience members will also have a chance to purchase holiday baked goods at a bake sale organized by members of the New Utrecht Reformed Church to benefit the Church’s restoration fund.

The Grand Street Band’s concert is one in a series of free concerts and history-related events offered each year by the Friends of Historic New Utrecht.  Persons interested in learning more about the December 6 concert, New Utrecht’s landmarks, and its history are invited to contact 718-256-7173, visit their website, or connect on Facebook.

The Friends organization’s program of free public events is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development, Councilman Vincent Gentile, Councilman Mark Treyger, and by funding from the Verizon Foundation.
