Saturday: Doggie Olympics At Marine Park

The dog days of summer may be behind us. But today’s the first day of autumn, and the Canarsie Lions Club is putting together a very special dog day for pet owners around the ‘hood.

Canine lovers and sport spectators will converge tomorrow – September 24 – on Marine Park for the 7th Annual Doggie Olympics, a true competition of the neighborhood’s best beasts on four legs. The 25-event competition covers a variety of dog/owner talents including best dressed dogs, agility courses and doggie dances.

The event is free to watch, kicking off at 10:30 a.m. near the Fillmore Avenue entrance of the park, and it’s only $15 at the door to enter your pooch into the Olympics. All proceeds go to benefit the Visions Camp for Blind Children and a Canarsie public school.

Since there’s nothing worse than a wet dog, the event will be rescheduled to Sunday if the rain is heavy. Call Bryan at (917) 846-1944 before coming if you are concerned it may be rained out.
