Much like the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving parade, Santa immediately follows the Turkey Day festivities, and here in Brooklyn, that means the big man himself is about to start making local appearances!

This Saturday, November 28, he’ll be in Park Slope as part of a big holiday and local business celebration — High 5 for the Holidays from the Park Slope 5th Avenue Business Improvement District.

In honor of Small Business Saturday, stores and restaurants that line the 30-block stretch of 5th Avenue between Dean and 18th Streets will participate by staying open late, and offering a number of holiday specials.

Plus, there are a ton of fun events that the whole family will enjoy, including:

-Free glitter tattoos at Lulu’s Cuts and Toys.
-A special on kid’s painting at Pinot’s Palette.
-A doll-making workshop at Ground Floor Gallery.
-Free family Zumba class at Body Reserve.

Then the main event: The annual tree lighting ceremony! The tree will be set up at the corner of 5th Avenue and 4th Street (note the new location, having moved from 3rd Street in years past), and the festivities start at 6:30pm. Here’s what you’ll see:

-Rolie Polie Guacamole featuring Amelia Robinson of Mils Trills
-Puppetry Arts performance/puppet making
-Ornament making with the Prospect Park YMCA
-Songs from Sarah Stevens, a 15-year-old opera singer
-Opera on Tap carolers
-Hot chocolate from The Chocolate Room
-Sugar cookies from Du Jour Bakery
-Brownies from Le Pain Quotidien
-Free High 5 reusable shopping bags
-And, of course, Santa!

Finally, consider helping out those less fortunate this year — bring your gently used coats for collection for a New York Cares winter coat drive.
