With Thanksgiving just a few days away, it’s time to start talking jingle bells, jolly bearded men, and gifts. If you’re looking to keep it local this holiday season, look no further than 5th Avenue.

The Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID is set to kick off the most wonderful time of the year on Small Business Saturday, November 29, with Festive Fifth, a celebration of both the holidays and area businesses.

Stores and restaurants that line the 30-block stretch of 5th Avenue between Dean and 18th Streets will participate by staying open late, and offering a number of holiday specials.

From 6:30-9pm, look for:

• A tree-lighting ceremony at 6:30pm on the corner of 5th Avenue and 3rd Street in front of S’Nice, which will offer complimentary hot chocolate. Tabeel will provide cookies, Du Jour Bakery will bring out the marshmallows, Popcorn Love brings popcorn, and Le Pain Quotidien will be serving up belgian mini-brownies.

• Music, music, music, provided by Amy Miles, host of PBS’ Lomax the Hound of Music, plus caroling by Opera on Tap.

• Puppets and games from Park Slope’s own Puppetry Arts and NY Kids Club.

Plus a special visit from Santa Clause and Frosty!

Note that the intersection of 5th Ave and 3rd St will be closed to traffic during the event.

Spend the day exploring some of our Park Slope shops, and afterward, grab a bite (or a beer) at some of the Avenue’s many restaurants and watering holes. Come out and show some love for local business!
